Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko initiated a special meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Presidents of Ukraine and Poland to avoid further escalation of tensions in bilateral relations on the backdrop of the Polish government members' strong rhetoric towards Ukraine.

Spokesperson for the Ukrainian president Sviatoslav Tseholko wrote on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.

"Strong statements recently made by the representatives of the official Polish authorities towards Ukraine and its leadership cause serious concern and cannot be left without proper response. In order to strengthen strategic partnership between Ukraine and the Republic of Poland, and to avoid further escalation of tensions, recognizing the need to resolve any challenging issues in bilateral relations solely in a civilized European manner, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has initiated a special meeting of the Consultative Committee of Ukrainian and Polish presidents," the statement reads.
