Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov believes that the Crimean Tatar people should get autonomy on their ancestral land.

He said in an interview with Censor.NET.

Commenting on the words of Ukraine's former representative to the political subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group, Roman Bezsmertnyi, on the status of the Crimean peninsula he earlier voiced on air of 112 Ukraine TV channel, Umerov expressed his full agreement with the diplomat's opinion.

"He made a good statement back then. He said that it was the Crimean Tatars who should determine the status of Crimea and that Crimean Tatars should determine whether Crimea should be a part of Russia, Ukraine or other state. Another issue is that the rights of all other people should be respected in this territory, which is considered Crimean Tatar. But the status should be determined by the indigenous people. This completely mirrors my view," Umerov said.

He also noted that the relevant law was already drafted, but there were difficulties with its adoption so far.

"The drafted bill has not yet been approved by all the relevant authorities, has not yet been put on the agenda. It is probably all about sluggishness or bureaucracy. Our state is not very light-footed. This is the main reason. The second reason is disorder among the deputy factions, groups, deputies, etc. Things are not going smoothly even in our own presidential faction," Mejlis deputy head explained.
