Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the prosecutor's office of the Kharkiv region.
"The accident took place on Oct. 18 this year at around 8:40 p.m. at Sumska and Mechnykova Streets intersection. A Lexus vehicle that was driving from Constitution Square to Sumska Street hit a Volkswagen car proceeding from Rymarska to Pushkinska Street. After the crash, Lexus drove onto the sidewalk and hit pedestrians. Five people were killed on spot, six traumatized and taken to hospital. The driver of Lexus has been detained under article 208 of the Criminal Proceeding Code of Ukraine. A motion is being drafted to ask the court for her arrest," the report reads.
None of the two drivers were intoxicated with alcohol or drugs, expertise showed. Investigation continues, more expertise analyses have been scheduled.
Experts are studying videos from surveillance cameras. The maximum sanction provided by the article of the Criminal Code is 10 years in prison, the prosecutor's office said.
As reported, at around 8:45 p.m. on Oct. 18, a Lexus crashed into a pedestrian crowd in Kharkiv, killing five and wounding six people. The driver, a 20-year-old woman, has been detained.
