The law enforcers found that the resident of the Donetsk region ensnared himself to separatists' promises and joined an illegal armed gang of the "DPR" terrorist organization.
As a member of a gang, he guarded military facilities, including the "general staff" of the militants and Russian command. As he witnessed the robberies and humiliation against locals by the militants, he decided to abandon the so-called "Novorossiya", the report reads.
Being afraid of criminal persecution, he was hiding at his relatives' on the government-controlled territories.
"Having heard of the SBU program titled "They are waiting for you at home," the militant surrendered to the law enforcers and informed them of his participation in an armed gang. The crimes he committed are being checked within a criminal investigation. The former militant is now staying at home with his family and awaiting to be released from criminal liability under the law. He called on other members of illegal armed gangs to return home to their wives, kids, and parents through the same program," SBU reported.
