U.S. Special Envoy on Ukraine Kurt Volker told DW in an interview, Censor.NET reports.
Volker said in an interview that the United States is not going to have a separate agreement with Russia on solving the armed conflict in the Donbas without Ukraine and EU.
This will not happen, Volker is quoted by DW as saying. There will be no separate agreement above the heads of the Ukrainians or behind the backs of the Europeans.
He said that before meeting Russian president's aide Vladislav Surkov last week in Minsk, he had been in close contact regarding the Ukrainian issue with representatives of Germany and France.
The U.S. made it clear, Volker said, that it supports the peace talks in the Normandy format, but does not intend to become part of it of lead the effort.
The diplomat said Ukraine is one of the priority issues in the foreign policy of President Donald Trump.
Volker said the issue of Ukraine is the key one among other international issues, like Syria and North Korea. Washington will deem its policy towards Ukraine successful when the territorial integrity is restored and security for all Ukrainians guaranteed, the envoy said.
