Normandy Four agrees on truce in Donbas ahead of new school year


The Normandy Four leaders have supported the decision of the Trilateral Contact Group on the Donbas to cease fire before the start of another school year on Sep. 1.

The heads of state and government expressed hope that the truce will lead to an improvement in the security situation for the benefit of schoolchildren and civilians in the Donbas, the leaders' joint statement says.

The negotiators also agreed on taking personal efforts to comply with the Minsk agreements based on the cease-fire regime.

The press service of President Poroshenko wrote: "The president of Ukraine held a phone conversation with the Normandy format leaders - the president of France, the federal chancellor of Germany, and the president of Russia."

As reported, Petro Poroshenko briefed his interlocutors on today's visit to the town of Shchastia near occupied Luhansk, where he met with representatives of the OSCE SMM forward patrol base permanently stationed in Stanytsia Luhanska and highly praised their around-the-clock operation in the area.

The Ukrainian leader also called for the immediate release of all Ukrainian hostages illegally held in captivity.
