Censor.NET reports citing a response by the PR and communications department of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to an inquiry by BBC Ukraine regarding the number of casualties in the battles for Ilovaisk of Aug. 24-29, 2014.
"It is reported that the total combat losses of the ATO (anti-terrorist operation) forces during the fighting in the area of Ilovaisk are 437 people (192 people killed, 212 injured, 25 missing, and eight held hostage)," the response reads.
The data on casualties differ from those previously reported by the Chief Military Prosecutor's Office. According to the prosecutor agency, on Aug. 29, 2014 alone, during the withdrawal of the ATO forces from Ilovaisk, "366 Ukrainian soldiers died, 429 received wounds of varying severity, 300 were captured."
The Military Prosecutor's Office did not report on the fact that Ukrainian fighters who fought at Ilovaisk still remain in the captivity of the separatists.
