 Suspects in Wall project embezzlement served indictments, - NABU

On Aug. 9, prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) and detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) served indictments to seven persons detained a day before as suspects in criminal investigation into embezzling funds for the Wall project, aimed at enhancing Ukraine-Russia border and in the Donbas and Crimea areas.

The officials of the State Border Service are suspected of committing crimes that inflicted large damages to the state.

On Aug. 8, law enforcers detained head of resources provision department of the State Border Guard Service Oleksandr Atamaniuk, former head of the first capital construction department of the State Border Guard Service Volodymyr Tsalko, officer of construction department that was in charge of controlling the construction Viacheslav Maidanovych, and directors of companies that were conducting construction job - Agaverdi Adilov, Oleksandr Kashuba, Serhii Znachko, and Oleksandr Khvyshchuk.

All of the detainees are held in pretrial detention center of the National Police in Kyiv. The detectives are drafting motions to the Solomianskyi district court of Kyiv on choosing restraint measure for the detainees - they will ask for arrest or a bail as an alternative. The amount of the bail should equal that of the damages inflicted to the state by the suspects.

On Aug. 8, NABU and SAP detained seven people allegedly involved in funds embezzlement related to the Wall project implementation. The investigation has evidence provided by engineering and city planning expertise that the Wall Project construction inflicted damages of 16.688 million hryvnia ($649,000).
