On July 11, two rare aircraft of the U.S. Marine Corps, Bell V-22 Osprey, landed in Odesa for fuel top-up.

Censor.NET reports citing Dumskaia.

Bell V-22 Osprey is a tiltrotor that combines the advantages of both airplanes and helicopters. The Ospreys in Odesa were heading to a military base in the Mykolaiv region for participation in Sea Breeze 2017 international military drills.

These tiltrotors serve the U.S. Marine Corps and are used for airborne landing, including on a sea shore. This is the only volume-produced aircraft of this type in the world.

The aircraft is equipped with two Rolls-Royce T406 engines located at the ends of the wing in gondolas that can rotate by almost 98 degrees. The propellers with three trapezoidal fans are connected to each other by a synchronizing shaft that runs inside the wing. This shaft also enables the aircraft to land on a single engine.

To reduce the weight of the aircraft, about 70 percent (5,700 kg) of it is made of composite materials with epoxide carbon and fiberglass, which makes it by 25 percent lighter than its metal-made analog.
