Employees of the State Committee for Technical Regulation and Consumer Policy conducted checkups in 103 Sushi Land Evrasia and Sushi Life restaurants after several dozen people were hospitalized with food poisoning after eating in a Sushi Land Evrasia restaurant in Kyiv circus area.

This was announced by deputy head of the State Committee for Technical Regulation and Consumer Policy in Kyiv, Oleksandr Ovcharenko, to 112.ua, Censor.NET reports.

Ovcharenko said the inspectors recorded no violations in only four of 103 checked restaurants. The rest of them had violations, and 30 percent of the restaurants decided to temporarily close their venues until they are corrected.

Ovcharenko said in some cases the chain was receiving fish of unclear origin and unchecked quality.

"A supplier with uncertain documents delivers fish to the chain, and thousands of people consume it," the official said.

Other defects include violations of technological processes, like preparation of sushi conducted in the same place where hot dishes are made; no place for cleaning and disinfection, no storage area for cleaning tools; storage of food after its expiration date in the same fridge with safe food; poor sanitary conditions of production facilities; etc.

The number of people poisoned in a Sushi Land Evrasia restaurant in Kyiv circus area reached 34.

Police initiated criminal investigation. State Committee for Technical Regulation and Consumer Policy has been monitoring public restaurants since July 1.
