The lawsuit against those guilty of the MH17 disaster will be held in the Netherlands.

National and international sources told Rtlnieuws.nl, Censor.NET reports. The perpetrators will be tried under the Dutch law.

The Dutch Council of Ministers will soon discuss the prosecution strategy. In addition to the Netherlands, Australia, Malaysia, Ukraine, and Belgium must also agree, the member countries of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT). An option for a U.N. tribunal was blocked by the Russian Federation in the Security Council two years ago.

Whether the perpetrators will ever actually appear before the court remains a question, RTL News reports. If that is not possible, they will be tried by default.

The Netherlands is a logical choice, RTL News reported, as the country lost most people in the downing of MH17. On July 17, 2014, 298 people died when MH17 flight was shot down in eastern Ukraine. All people on board were killed, among them 193 Dutchmen.
