 Fire erupted on Khortytsia island, Sich and national park under threat. PHOTOS

On June 8, unknown people put on fire the grass growing on Khortytsia island, Ukraine's national part and Cossack Sich site in Zaporizhzhia. Thanks to Emergency Service rescuers and volunteers, Sich was saved from destruction.

Censor.NET reports citing general director of Khortytsia national park Maksym Ostapenko on Facebook.

Ostapenko wrote the fire was spreading quickly due to wind. Thanks to efforts by two dozen of people who joined the operative rescuers of the Emergency Service, the Sich (reconstructed Cossack residence and fortress) and the park on the island have been saved, Ostapenko wrote.

The director said the arson is conducted by a group of people who act on purpose. He addressed Zaporizhia governor Kostiantyn Bryl with a request to protect Khortytsia with all available law enforcement agencies.
