Interior Minister says he is ready to arrest people allegedly messing with shadow VAT

The head of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine Myroslav Prodan presented the amounts of shadow VAT that might possibly appear in Ukraine's economy.

As reported by Censor.NET, Prodan did this during the Cabinet of Ministers meeting on Wednesday.

He provided data on huge amounts of money that were filed as VAT but might in fact be false.

He said that shadow VAT was about 980 million hryvnia ($37.5 million) in March, and 219 million hryvnia in April.

In response, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov offered Prodan to arrest the people allegedly involved in VAT shadowing.

"We have enough helicopters," Avakov said referring to recent large scale operation to detain two dozen of Yanukovych-era top taxmen, who were detained and brought to Kyiv by helicopters. "This is not a joke."
