"We have gathered detailed evidence, we have expertise conclusions, tons of documents, and the final decision was to detain several dozen of top officials of the tax system of Yanukovych era simultaneously. We manage to prevent this information from leaking. We managed to coordinate it well, and we needed the helicopters to make it to courts and get arrest sanctions," Lutsenko said on air of 1+1 TV channel.
The prosecutor general added that the cost of the helicopters was less then 0.2 percent of arrested property of the suspects.
"The judges are able to arrest them or at least set high enough bails. Releasing a person in whose house a bag with $3.8 million was found, at 15 million hryvnia bail ($0.58 million - ed.) does not seem adequate to me," prosecutor general said.
Lutsenko says all 23 suspects will receive indictments that will be sent to court. He added 32 persons that were top officials during Yanukovych's tenure as a president are now in jail. 16 former officials have been convicted.
"The same will happen to these people," Lutsenko said.
"This is not the end of operation. More helicopters to follow. Maybe even more than on that day," Lutsenko said.
As reported, the National Police and the Military Prosecutor's Office launched the special nationwide operation to detain senior officials of the former Inland Revenue Ministry of Ukraine on May 24.
