Putin on Eurovision-2017: “Kyiv unable to hold such events properly. Our artists did right thing when refused to participate”

Russia made the right decision not to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017.

As reported by Censor.NET citing RIA Novosti news agency, this opinion was expressed by President Vladimir Putin of Russia at a press conference following his visit to China.

"As for the Eurovision, those who wanted to watch it could always do this via the Internet. And I think that our organizations involved in this event did the right thing when they refused to take part, because, in my opinion, current Kyiv authorities are unable to hold such events properly," Putin said.

The grand finale of the Eurovision International Song Contest was held in Kyiv on the night of Sunday, May 14. This year, Russia did not take part in the contest as the Ukrainian Security Service barred Russian singer Yulia Samoylova from entering the country as she had previously held concerts in the occupied Crimea.
