Censor.NET reports citing the statement by the press service of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.
"On Friday, May 12, the law enforcers apprehended chairman of the Kilia district administration and his female accomplice - the administration's senior specialist - under bribery charges. It was found that the specialist extorted more than $2,000 in bribe from a person for the extension of a lease contract for a land plot with area of 2 hectares. The official confessed that she had pre-agreed all her actions and the amount with the district administration head," the agency said.
The prosecutors and police detained the official when she was receiving the second part of money in the amount of $1,300. Another part of the pre-agreed bribe in the amount of $500 was found in the office of the district administration chairman.
According to Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, the official headed a crime ring selling the ownership rights for state-owned land plots along the Danube.
"The law enforcers detained the chairman and employee red-handed under article 208 as they were accepting next part of the bribe amounting to $2,300 for 2 hectares of land. The detainees face up to 10 years in prison for organizing the corrupt scheme to capitalize on the state-owned land," Avakov said.
