Censor.NET reports citing the statement by the press office of the Georgian National Legion.
"David Sikharulidze fought against the invaders in Abkhazia back in 1992-1993. He graduated from the Georgia n Military Academy and military school of the Bundeswehr in Germany.
"He served in the Georgian army until 2015, but then resigned in the rank of major, moved to Ukraine, and joined the Aidar Battalion. The officer was killed by a mortar shell near the village of Novoluhanske while performing a combat mission.
"David, 44, is survived by a wife and two children," the statement reads.
According to Georgian National Legion, several hundred Georgians continue defending Ukraine.
"However, no one of them has ever received Ukrainian citizenship despite the president's solemn commitment, but they still continue to fight and die for Ukraine like those 34 Ukrainians who laid down their lives in Abkhazia while many others, including Heorhii Gongadze, were wounded there."
"By making a stand for Ukraine, Georgians re pay their debt to Ukrainian heroes. They also fight for Georgia's freedom and consider Ukraine their second homeland. It's no coincidence that most foreigners killed defending Ukraine were Georgians. Let all the heroes rest in peace in the Ukrainian land," the statement reads.
