Russian Liman warship sank after colliding with a freighter off the coast of Istanbul in the Black Sea.

Censor.NET reports citing Interfax referring to the Russian Defense Ministry.

"Liman sustained a hull breach below the waterline and sank," the MoD said.

"All crew members of the BSF Liman research vessel are alive and well. They are preparing for evacuation from a Turkish rescue vessel to a Russian ship," the ministry said.

As reported by Turkish media, 15 Russian soldiers went missing after the wreck.

Russia's Defense Ministry said the reports of missing crew members were untrue, adding that Russian Ulus-Star vessel was on its way to retrieve the rescued personnel and take it to a Black Sea Fleet base.

In turn, the Turkish media report that the Russian ship received a hole after colliding with a vessel flying the flag of Togo and carrying livestock.

The Turkish news agency Dogan claims citing local officials the collision was due to a thick fog in the area.
