The secret service operatives detained an employee of Zoria-Mashproekt SE and a local businessman trying to smuggle from the territory of the plant three units of equipment designed for monitoring gas temperature inside the gas turbine engine worth 124,000 hryvnia (about $4,600). Besides, the perpetrators attempted to smuggle out 86 nozzles for the gas turbine engine injectors and seals necessary for legitimizing the stolen equipment.
The thieves acted in collusion with a citizen of the Russian Federation, an employee of the private company linked with the Russian pipeline and defense industry companies.
The attempt to smuggle equipment to the Russian Federation is explained by the fact that this country lacks capacity for independent serial production and repair of gas turbine equipment which was solely carried out by the Mykolaiv enterprise before 2014.
Considerable amount of equipment, components, blueprints and specifications, which the enterprise had been previously supplying to the Russian Federation were seized during the searches conducted at homes and workplaces of the suspects.
The criminal proceedings were initiated under article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The detainees were served indictments. The court is choosing a pre-trial restriction for the perpetrators.
