"We should distance ourselves from Russia as much as possible. Any ties with this state damage Ukraine," - Dzhemilev on visa requirements for Russians

Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of Crimean Tatars, leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev believes that it is necessary to introduce a visa regime with Russia for the national security reasons.

He said in an interview with Censor.NET.

"It's clear that such a decision will complicate the situation for our citizens working there, but at the same time, it must probably be implemented for the national security reasons. Moreover, we should distance ourselves from Russia as much as possible since any ties with this state cause damage to Ukraine," Dzhemilev stressed.

Asked about reaction of Western countries to this decision, the leader of the Crimean Tatar people reminded that "this is the sovereign right of each state."

"And how can they actually respond? They all have a visa regime with Russia," Dzhemilev said.

As reported, the People's Front faction, which is a member of the parliamentary coalition, demands to revisit the issue of introducing visa requirements for the Russian citizens after the decision of the European Parliament to waive visas for Ukrainians.
