US, Ukraine leaders may meet in near future, - Deputy Foreign Minister Prystaiko

A meeting of Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko and his American counterpart Donald Trump may take place in the near future.

Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko said in an interview with Ukrainski Novyny, Censor.NET reports.

"We will not disclose all our plans. But I will not be surprised if the head of [Ukrainian - ed.] state pays a visit in the near future, during which such a meeting will take place. We are working on this," Prystaiko said.

He added it is not worthwhile guessing whether a meeting between Poroshenko and Trump will take place before or after a meeting between Trump and Putin.

"It looks like many people are bothered with the issue. As for me, this is a rather simplistic approach," he stressed.

Prystaiko added the recent meetings with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and U.S. National Security Adviser Herbert McMaster were important to Ukraine.

"We are interested in a meeting with the secretary of defense, which is also planned. And, of course, with the [U.S. - ed.] president as well," he summed up.

In the run-up to his visit to Moscow, Tillerson assured Poroshenko that Washington will not allow any package deal with Russia as regards solution to the situation in Ukraine and Syria.
