Former US Attorney Boersch ready to compete for NABU auditor post, - MP Soboliev

Lawmaker and chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Anti-Corruption Committee Yehor Soboliev (Samopomich faction) says former U.S. Attorney Martha Boersch is ready to participate in the competition for the position of member of the external control committee on the audit of the effectiveness of Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) under parliament's quota.

Soboliev announced at a committee meeting, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.

"As of now, we have the decision and reply of Ms. Martha Boersch... She sent an official response that she would be happy to participate in such a contest," he said.

The MP noted that former Spanish Prosecutor Carlos Castresana and Director of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) Giovanni Kessler, recommended by NGOs for the post under cabinet's quota, have not yet given official response to the proposal to participate in the contest.

Feb. 23, Soboliev reported attempt to appoint "certain British national Mr. Brown" as independent NABU auditor. March 16, several members of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Corruption Prevention and Counteraction recommended two candidates for the post of NABU auditor. According to Soboliev, that decision was illegitimate. Petro Poroshenko Bloc (PPB) faction MP Mustafa Nayyem said: "PPB and People's Front members tampered the documents and shoved British national Nigel Brown who appeared as if from nowhere."

As a result, the Verkhovna Rada failed to support the decision to choose NABU auditor from two nominations - Storch and Brown. March 17, the meeting of the anti-corruption committee that was supposed to consider the issue of NABU auditor did not take place due to the non-attendance of lawmakers.
