"I accomplished my mission in full," – Hontareva on her resignation

Head of the National Bank of Ukraine Valeria Hontareva is ready for a resignation.

Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"I have never said that I'm going to work in the National Bank for the rest of my life. I believe I've accomplished my mission in full. The country switched to a flexible exchange-rate system and launched new monetary policy of inflation targeting.

"Moreover, we have cleaned the banking system from insolvent banks and strengthened its future sustainability. We transformed the National Bank into a powerful modern institution. Therefore, I will have some rest and spend some time with my family," Hontareva said.

Hontareva claims that her successor must be a professional banker with no political background.

"I have already proposed several candidates, but it is the president who will decide," the official added.
