 Two SES officials indicted in Vasylkiv oil depot fire case

Two employees of the State Emergency Service in the Kyiv region have been indicted on charges of neglect of duty.

Censor.NET reports citing the Unified Register of Judicial Decisions.

The case concerns the fire that erupted on June 8, 2015 at the BRSM-Nafta oil depot in the Vasylkivskyi district of the Kyiv region. The accident killed six people and injured 15. The tanks remained ablaze for almost three days.

On March 15, 2017, the head of the department of state monitoring of fire and man-made safety and civil protection of the State Emergency Service regional branch as well as the chief inspector of the department of normative and technical work and control over fire protection and licensing systems were indicted as part of the case.

Both officials face charges under part 2, article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (neglect of duty entailing grave consequences).

Earlier, the State Emergency Service reported the fire had occurred due to the carelessness of personnel and management of the depot in Vasylkiv. Last May, four suspects were named based on the results of investigation.
