 Fallen National Guard fighter Telnov awarded title Hero of Ukraine

Yevhen Telnov was killed in Shyrokyne fighting on Feb. 15, 2015.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko made a decision to award Telnov a Hero if Ukraine title posthumously. The head of state announced it on Twitter during the official celebration of the 3rd anniversary of the National Guard, Censor.NET reports.

"I have made a decision to award the title of the Hero of Ukraine to Yevhen Telnov, killed on Feb. 15, 2015 in Shyrokyne fighting," Poroshenko wrote.

Yevhen Lvovych Telnov, call sign Usach, participated in the war in the Donbas as a member of the National Guard's 'Donbas' Battalion. On Aug. 29, 2014 (on the photo) his battalion was retreating from Ilovaisk as it came under tank fire at Chervonoselske village. 109 military were taken captive, more than 45 were killed. Telnov and his 12 comrades managed to escape with their weapons. Telnov also successfully hit two T-72 tanks and two IFVs of the Russian terrorists.

Telnov was killed in an ambush not far from Mariupol on Feb. 15, 2015. A petition to award him the Hero of Ukraine title was created earlier on the presidential website. In 2016, Telnov was awarded the non-governmental title of People's Hero of Ukraine.
