 Rada to consider stripping officials with dual citizenship of Ukrainian nationality tomorrow, - Parubii

Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrii Parubii instructed the Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations to urgently consider the presidential bill No. 6175 in order to adopt it at the plenary session on Thursday.

Parubii said at the Rada meeting, Censor.NET reports citing ZN.UA.

"This bill was also discussed at the meeting of leaders of the parliamentary factions. A compromise wording was found there which gives grounds to assume that it will be supported in the session hall," the speaker said.

According to him, President Petro Poroshenko also took part in the discussion.

"The president agreed with the wording that bars the officials and civil servants from having passports other than Ukrainian one, and stipulates deprivation of citizenship," the speaker of the parliament added.

Parubii recalled that "the Ukrainian security agencies, the Ukrainian Army were run by the people with passports of the Russian Federation, which led to the collapse of the Ukrainian Army and Russia's aggression."

Earlier, President Petro Poroshenko proposed the Verkhovna Rada to consider voluntary acquisition of a foreign nationality by Ukrainians a sufficient reason for stripping them of Ukrainian citizenship.
