 Eleven criminal cases initiated into Lviv waste dumping outside landfills, - National Police. PHOTOS

The National Police have recorded 21 cases of garbage removal from the Lviv region to other regions of Ukraine since October 2016. In each case, the dump truck drivers tried to unload waste beyond landfills.

As reported by Censor.NET citing the National Police Communications Department, the garbage hauliers tried to dump waste removed from the Lviv region in the Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhia, Poltava, Sumy, and Cherkasy regions.

In most cases, dump trucks moved in columns and unloaded tons of household waste in one and the same place.

Three such trucks were recorded in the Vinnytsia region. 11 trucks at once were recorded in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Each of them carried 15 tons of waste. Their drivers tried to get rid of the cargo not only at other cities' dumps. Waste piles weighing from 30 to 80 tons were dumped in the fields, forests, and ravines, contaminating the environment and presenting an environmental hazard.

In several cases, the garbage was dumped near the water bodies with cities and villages located nearby. If waste liquid got into the groundwater running into these water bodies, it could have caused mass poisoning among local residents.

Information on 11 such cases has been included into the Unified Register of pre-trial investigations under part 1 of article 239 (Pollution or damage to lands) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
