On Friday, Polish President Andrzej Duda sent a congratulatory message to Donald Tusk on his re-election to the post of European Council president.
"I congratulate you on obtaining the support of the majority of European Union countries for extending your term in office as president of the European Council. I hope that in future it will be possible to rebuild European unity based on the principle of equal countries and free nations," Andrzej Duda wrote.
Incumbent chairman of the European Council Donald Tusk has won the needed majority of votes at the EU summit in Brussels on Thursday to lead the highest body of the European Union for the second term.
"I'm grateful for trust and positive assessment by the European Council. I will do my best to make the EU better," Tusk said on Twitter.
The former Polish prime minister swore in as European Council chief in late 2014 to stay in office until May 31, 2017.
