Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said delivering his speech at a congressional hearing, Censor.NET reports citing 112 Ukraine TV channel.
According to Ukraine's top diplomat, making political deals with the Russian Federation from the position of strength is the only right way to cooperate with it. No agreements with Russians should be concluded until they comply with all provisions of the Minsk agreements.
Klimkin thanked the United States for its extraordinary support for Ukraine, namely the aid provided to Ukraine over the past three years in its struggle against Russia.
The minister also thanked the U.S. administration for its support and expressed hope for it to be continuous adding that this assistance was not only for the benefit of Ukraine, but also for the benefit of the U.S., and for the benefit of freedom and stability of the Trans-Atlantic alliance.
Ukrainian official requested the appropriations subcommittee's strong support in certain areas noting that the technical assistance provided by the United States would send the right message to the Kremlin and strengthen Ukraine's stability.
Klimkin also called on the U.S. senators to support allocation of financial aid to Ukraine under NDAA-2017 (National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017) and facilitate long-term security arrangements adding that the U.S. involvement would be crucial in such accords.
As reported, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin was on a working visit to the U.S. on March 6, 7. Ukraine's diplomat held talks with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson March 7. The parties tackled a number of critical issues including U.S. efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine's east. Besides negotiations with Tillerson, Klimkin held meetings with members of the U.S. Presidential Administration and U.S. Congress.
