 Ukraine’s foreign ministry seeks EU to change attitude to Ukraine, engage in meaningful dialogue

Director of the European Union Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vsevolod Chentsov believes the EU must change the model of relations with Ukraine.

Ukrainian diplomat said at a Conference on the outcomes of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement implementation in 2016 and prospects for 2017, Censor.NET reports citing UNIAN.

According to Chentsov, developing relations with the EU, Ukraine was trapped in numerous internal problems of the European Union. The diplomat believes that it is necessary to find a way out of this situation. He said it had negative impact on such issues as common airspace, energy sector and attitude to Ukraine.

Chentsov expressed belief that Ukraine had "overgrown the pink panties" of the country just subjected to the policies of the European Union and rightfully aspired to engage in meaningful dialogue.

He also confirmed that the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU is critical for Ukraine as it should encourage reforms.

The diplomat believes that it is high time to change the model of relations between Ukraine and EU and depart from the "paternalistic" approach.
