Members of the Regional Economic Crime Directorate of the National Police in conjunction with prosecutors and SBU officers detained a senior executive and a department head of a Kharkiv plant while receiving 1.5 million hryvnia (over $55,000) in a bribe.

Police spokesperson Natalia Kalynovska told Censor.NET.

According to her, a private company CEO reported to the police that the plant's deputy director and head of a department were extorting 1.5 million hryvnia from him for their fulfillment of the plant's contractual obligations otherwise threatening to fall behind delivery terms.

The investigation found that the private firm and the plant signed a contract for the supply of electrical equipment. The private company CEO also had contractual customer commitments, violation of which entailed substantial penalties.

Kalynovska added that being aware of these commitments, the plant's deputy director demanded to pay him 1.5 million hryvnia otherwise refusing to deliver the equipment in time which would make the private company pay heavy delay damages.
