"Failure to adopt law on occupied territories is Ukrainian authorities' biggest mistake," - Ukraine's first President Kravchuk

A law on occupied territories should be passed as soon as possible.

Kravchuk said on air of 112 Ukraine, Censor.NET reports citing UNIAN.

"I believe that the most important or the most serious mistake of the Ukrainian authorities is the failure to pass a law that would define our relations with occupied territories. What they should look like, what format they should have and who should control them. That is, the law should provide for all concrete steps," Kravchuk said.

"It's a strange thing that we have here. We are at war. Our leaders and not only ours say at all meetings that we are at war and Russia is the aggressor. And when we sit down to negotiate and sign documents, we have no war but an anti-terrorist operation. It is a different legal formula. The effects of such a status differ from those caused by aggression or war. Therefore, if our political forces, our statesmen are serious and responsible, they need to adopt a law on occupied territories in the near future. The drafts of such documents have been registered in the parliament. Lawmakers have to consider and adopt them the soonest possible, otherwise it will end with a conflict," the politician added.
