Russia might use its Transnistria contingent to attack Ukraine, - Poroshenko

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko says the Russian Federation may use its troops deployed in Transnistria to attack Ukraine.

Poroshenko said at the operational meeting of the Armed Forces of Ukraine administrative board. Censor.NET reports citing 112 Ukraine TV channel.

"The Russian contingent in the south-west - in the Transnistrian region of Moldova which is beyond Chisinau control - might also be used for an attack on our territory any time. It poses threat to our borders," he said.

The president stressed that regardless of its limited number, this contingent might provide additional challenges as a supplementary force combined with more than 20,000 soldiers deployed in Crimea.

Poroshenko also noted that people all across Europe started to realize the scale of Russia's enormous appetite.

"It engages in saber rattling at its borders, carries out powerful cyberattacks..., funds pro-Russian and Eurosceptic parties and NGO's supporting Russia, blatantly interferes in the election campaign, spreads Goebbels-style fake news. Moscow left its trace in the migration crisis, which was actually an attempt to destabilize the situation both in the EU and beyond, to disintegrate the EU, to put it bluntly," he added.
