The Kyiv-based Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea has initiated proceedings under paragraph 1 article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

"Andrii Artemenko, who is a people's deputy of Ukraine... when being abroad, and upon previous concert with the Russian Federation leadership, has committed an act of high treason, i.e. provided assistance to a foreign country (the Russian Federation) in its efforts to conduct subversive activities against Ukraine in the form of calls to lease for a long term the territory of Crimea, which is an integral part of the state, which rent might promote legitimization of temporary occupation of the peninsula," the document reads.

It has been signed by deputy prosecutor of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea M. Ivanets.

The Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea will conduct a pre-trial investigation.
