As reported by a correspondent for Censor.NET from the scene, on its first day, the exhibition was attended by the anti- terrorist operation veterans, their family members. They were sharing their memories with the visitors and telling stories about the war in the Donbas
"This is museum's second project covering the war in Ukraine's east. The first one called 'Ukraine. The realities of modern warfare' consisted of ten exhibitions. For two and a half years, the museum staff has collected more than 4,000 authentic showpieces. Half of them will be displayed at the 'Ukrainian East' exhibition for the first time.
"The exhibition tells stories about combat operations carried out by various military units including volunteer battalions in the eastern Ukraine in 2014-2017. A part of the exhibition tells about chaplains, medics, volunteers, military journalists. There is also Foreign Legion display created as a token of gratitude to citizens of kin countries, such as Belarusians, Georgians, Chechens and others defending our homeland," the exhibition organizers said.
"The display's central part - the Way of the Cross - embodies the price in blood the Ukrainian people are paying for their right to live freely in their homeland. Its major showpiece is the ambulance of the 17th Battalion of the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade. It has gone through the mill together with the soldiers in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, has saved hundreds of wounded and was engaged in evacuation of fallen.
"You can find near it a bloodstained clothes of Ukraine's heroes Major-General Serhii Kulchytskyi, Sergeant Oleh Mikhniuk fallen in 2014, and personal belongings of Hero of Ukraine Captain Andrii Kyzylo, scout Leonid Provodenko, combat medic Natalia Horuzha, Sergeant Volodymyr Kryzhanskyi, and others killed this winter," the display administration said.
