The prime minister said Wednesday at an extraordinary meeting of the government convened to make a decision on the introduction of exceptional measures in the country's energy sector, Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the Cabinet.
Hroisman noted that since the blockade of coal supplies was held in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) zone, this question was beyond the government's competence: "It is the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and other law enforcement agencies that must tackle this issue since it is a matter of national security," he said.
"It is necessary to decide now how to organize control at the demarcation line to get rid of this smuggling problem. This is the priority," the prime minister stressed.
He noted that only three railroads were blocked while it was possible to deliver contraband goods not by rail alone but also by road.
"Blockade is useless. It can damage Ukraine's economy, Ukrainian citizens who will suffer without heat and power, but not smuggling. This is not a comprehensive solution, and I am convinced that this decision is harmful for Ukraine," Hroisman said.
