 Chubarov on Chonhar incident: police and SBU work at scene

Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov has confirmed the information about the incident that occurred on the night of Feb. 13, 2017 at Chonhar between the Ukrainian military and members of Asker NGO.

Censor.NET reports referring to Chubarov's Facebook page.

"On the night of Feb. 13, 2017, an incident occurred between the Ukrainian military and members of Asker NGO.

"The incident was triggered by unmotivated and forceful seizure of a camp set up by Asker NGO, where fighters of Crimean Tatar Noman Çelebicihan Battalion are positioned," Chubarov wrote.

He noted that "during the incident, the Ukrainian military damaged certain facilities and property belonging to Asker NGO, made attempts to use physical force against its members."

"At the moment, the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine are working at the scene. Representative of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people in the Kherson region Abmedzhit Suleimanov and coordinator of Crimea's civil blockade Lenur Isliamov have arrived as well," Chubarov added.

As previously reported, on Feb. 12, armed men seized the base of Crimean Tatar Noman Çelebicihan Battalion in Chonhar village at the administrative border with occupied Crimea. An APC rammed the fence and a tent with people. The unknowns are said to have used firearms. No casualties have been reported.
