 PM Hroisman on utility rates: Prices are burden for Ukrainian citizens

Many large Ukrainian cities are heated with coal, so the switch to gas heating will again increase utility rates for citizens.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Ukrinform, this was announced by Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman on air of Ukraine TV channel.

Hroisman said Ukraine consumes 24 million tons of coal, of which 9 million is anthracite group produced from the Ukrainian subsurface in the temporarily occupied territories. It totals one third of the total electricity volume consumed in the country.

Hroisman also said that companies supplying coal from the occupied territories of the Donbas are registered in Ukraine and pay taxes to the state budget.

The prime minister said that many large Ukrainian cities are heated with coal, so the switch to gas heating will again increase utility rates.

"I believe the prices are already burdensome enough for Ukrainian citizens," he said.
