Vorobiov was found dead in his office today at 10:55 a.m., Censor.NET reports.
Hennadii Vorobiov headed the Land Forces of Ukraine in 2009-2014 and was one of the most experienced and professionally trained generals in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He personally exercised course of the anti-terrorist operation during his tenure on the post of the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He refused to comply with a criminal decree of Viktor Yanukovych on the use of force against the activists of Maidan in 2014. Subsequently he came under cleansing procedures as an officer who served during the ex-president's regime. He was dismissed by the Defense Minister's order issued on Oct. 25, 2014.
In 2015, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has approved the reinstatement of Colonel-General Hennadii Vorobiov at the post of the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine.
Vorobiov left the General Staff on May 21, 2016 and headed Ivan Cherniakhovskyi National Defense University of Ukraine.
Colonel-General Hennadii Vorobiov was awarded with two Orders of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, as well as Order For Courage, for his service.
