Sharhorod residents block road in protest against healthcare reform

The residents of the city of Sharhorod in the Vinnytsia region are protesting against the implementation of the hospital district system.

The protesters blocked traffic on a local road, Censor.NET reports citing 112 TV Channel.

The healthcare reform stipulates that the Vinnytsia region is to be divided into three hospital districts. The city of Sharhorod was attached to the district with the center in Mohyliv-Podilskyi, a city near Moldova border.

Locals complain there is no direct bus service between Sharhorod and Mohyliv-Podilskyi. It takes more than one hour to get to the Mohyliv-Podilskyi hospital. The protesters also fear that a local Sharhorod hospital might be closed.

The protesters say they are ready to radical actions such as blocking the railway.

The healthcare reform includes implementation of hospital districts in the next three years. The reform provides for each district to have at least one intensive care hospital. Each district should cover the area with population of 200,000 people.
