"It's a lesson for us today and reproach to our democrats", - Poroshenko on Battle of Kruty

President of Ukraine spoke on the occasion of the Kruty battle anniversary.

Petro Poroshenko mentioned Ukrainian patriots' deed in the fight against Bolshevik troops. Jan. 29 is the 99th anniversary of the tragedy near Kruty, Censor.NET reports citing the president's Facebook.

"The heroes of Kruty were very young but they had hearts of the men who protect their Motherland from enemy... This is a lesson for us today, and this is a reproach to our democrats, divided, uncompromising, interested only in their party farm yards,'' the president wrote.

''These are not my words. Viacheslav Chornovil wrote them 19 years ago. But they are essential now. I beg you to hear them," Poroshenko added.

The Battle of Kruty took place on Jan. 29 1918, near Kruty railway station, about 130 kilometers northeast of Kyiv. A small Ukrainian unit of 400 soldiers (mostly students) confronted 4,000 Bolshevik soldiers, commanded by Mikhail Muravyov, who advanced toward Kyiv.
