All officers of the Zaporizhia National Police special forces that took part in a boxing tournament in memory of Berkut fighters killed during the 2014 Maidan protests have been fired.

Asked by Censor.NET about the participation of several Zaporizhia special forces officers in a tournament with ex-Berkut fighters, Deputy Interior Minister Oleksii Takhtai said that upon the examination of video materials and reports, the National Police leadership has decided to discharge all the employees that took part in the competition, including Zaporizhia National Police Deputy Chief Andrii Dolynnyi.

The reasons behind the dismissal will be communicated to National Police staff in all regions.

As previously reported, Zaporizhia hosted a boxing tournament in memory of Serhii Tsvyhun, a Berkut officer killed during the 2014 Maidan protests in Kyiv.

The tournament became a glorification of the infamous police unit, disbanded over its atrocities against Maidan activists, rather than a tribute to the fallen comrade.

The event was attended by Zaporizhia National Police Deputy Chief Andrii Dolynnyi.
