Republican Senator John McCain said, Censor.NET reports citing Politico.
According to him, more sanctions against Russia should be introduced.
"We should not relax them," he said.
"If we don't keep those sanctions on and even increase them, it will encourage Vladimir Putin, who is a war criminal," the senator added.
He explained that when airplanes use precision weapons to strike hospitals in Aleppo, slaughtering innocent men, women and children, it is called a war crime.
Earlier, U.S. President-Elect Donald Trump said he was ready to offer the ease of sanctions against Russia in exchange for its cut of nuclear weapons.
