According to him, the incident has to do with illegal amber extraction in the region.
"At around midnight, at least three cars, including a minibus, arrived at downtown Olevsk. Unknowns in tracksuits armed with pistols and rifles jumped out of the vehicles. They started shooting at the young men in the parking outside a cafe," he wrote.
Nikolaichuk said one of the attackers threw a grenade into the crowd, inflicting injuries of varying degrees on the people: "Some were taken away by ambulance, friends or indifferent people, others dispersed to treat themselves on their own."
"The bandits got into their cars and left the city. To my knowledge, Siren operation has been launched in the Zhytomyr region, and a police special squad has been sent to Olevsk," Nikolaichuk said, adding that the local district hospital, where those badly wounded had been delivered, is under heavy guard.
"Dozens of young men from the entire neighborhood gathered outside the hospital. They assist their friends and demand an impartial investigation into the daring crime. The Olevsk distcrict police chief and the chief prosecutor have arrived at the hospital. The incident is being documented," the activist wrote.
He said a rally would take place "at the execution scene" at 11 a.m. today to "draw attention to the amber region terrorized by thugs for two years now."
Later, Nikolaichuk reported about the death of one of the participants in the incident.
"It's almost 5 a.m. Reinforcement is coming in the city. The scene is cordoned off, with the crime investigation team working there. The hospital has just informed us about the death of one of the showdown participants," he wrote
