On Tuesday evening, an explosion occurred in an apartment building in Sumy, killing a woman.

As reported by Censor.NET citing the State Emergency Service of Ukraine press office, two people have been rescued from the rubble.

"On Jan. 3, at 8:41 p.m., a (domestic gas) explosion occurred in an apartment on the 6th floor of a 10-story residential building in Sumy without subsequent burning," the report notes.

The blast destroyed the slab between the 5th and 6th floors within the same room (20 square meters), smashed interior walls between apartments on the 5th and 6th floors, damaged the slab between the 6th and 7th floors within the area of about 20 square meters without subsequent downfall.

The accident killed a woman. Two people have been rescued from the rubble. The residents of the building have been evacuated.

The rescue operation involved 29 emergency workers and nine vehicles.
