Lieutenant-General Serhii Kropyvchenko, a MoD reform team representative, announced it at a briefing on Wednesday, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.
"We have prospects of switching to a 100 percent contract-based army by 2020," Kropyvchenko said.
According to him, this year shows an increase in contract servicemen compared to 2015.
"To date, more than 67,000 people have entered the contract service, including more than 7,500 officers. The figure exceeds the overall number of contract military in the last 15 years," Kropyvchenko added.
He explained the ministry intends to enlist a total of 250,000 contract soldiers - a number stipulated by the norms of peacetime.
