 Poroshenko welcomes arrangement to cease fire in Donbas from Dec. 24 reached in Minsk

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko welcomes the agreement to cease fire in the Donbas effective from Dec. 24 that was reached at peace talks in Minsk.

The president wrote on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.

"I welcome the agreement to take additional measures to establish comprehensive and sustained truce starting from midnight of Dec. 24, 2016 reached within the Trilateral Contact Group in response to my initiative.

"I hope these measures taken on the eve of the New Year and Christmas holidays will establish permanent armistice in the Donbas.

"Ukraine reiterates its willingness to fulfill this and other entries of the Minsk agreements.

"I call on Russia to ensure strict observance of the cease-fire and implementation of other arrangements, in particular, the ones regarding immediate release of the hostages and illegally detained persons, including those held in the Russian territory," the president wrote.
