 Five Ukrainian soldiers killed, six wounded over past day, - ATO Staff

On Dec. 17, five Ukrainian soldiers died and six were wounded in an attack by Russian hybrid forces in the Donbas.

In the Mariupol sector, Shyrokyne was hit by 122 mm artillery. Talakivka, Vodiane, Hnutove, Shyrokyne came under mortar attack. The enemy used small arms against Pavlopil and a tank against Shyrokyne. Marinka came under sniper fire.

Attacks on Ukrainian positions near Novooleksandrivka in the Luhansk sector involved grenade launchers and heavy machine guns.

Starting from 5:50 a.m., after a massive heavy artillery and mortar barrage, Russian mercenaries made attempts to beak through Ukraine's advanced positions in the Svitlodarsk salient.

To this end, the enemy tried to flank Ukrainian strong points in big numbers.

However, their designs were timely disclosed.

"During a two-hour battle, our forces inflicted a defeat on occupants. According to a confirmed intelligence report, the enemy losses made 20 killed and 30 wounded.

"Unfortunately, we suffered losses as well. Five soldiers died and six got wounded, including four with slight and two with moderate injuries. All the injured received qualified medical assistance," the statement reads.
