"A blockade of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, offered today by NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov, is a call to crime against the citizens of Ukraine. A call to blockade of the two regions is a call to split of the country, to discrimination of our citizens at the state level. Opposition Bloc demands that the General Prosecutor's Office and the Security Service of Ukraine give a legal assessment of the statements by the NSDC secretary. We appeal to the president with a demand to give a political assessment of these anti-constitutional statements. Society must know whether the initiatives of the NSDC secretary are in line with the Ukrainian government policy and whether a politician, making such statements, may hold a responsible public office," the statement notes.

Earlier, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov said the flow of goods across the demarcation line in the Donbas should be completely blocked. In an interview with liga.net, he called it the only way to curb smuggling and recalled the experience of Croatia that found itself in a similar situation in early 90s.

It is a well known fact that only after imposing a tough economic blockade, Croatia quickly reoccupied its territory.

"Accordingly, if we want to accelerate the process of liberation of our territory, we need to go radical," Turchynov said.
