EU accepts Dutch proposals on association agreement with Ukraine, awaits ratification

The leaders of the European Union have agreed to the proposals voiced by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte aimed at unblocking the ratification of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement.

However, they may only materialize after the Netherlands ratifies the agreement and the EU concluds it, Censor.NET reports citing the European Council Conclusions on Ukraine.

According to the document, completing the ratification process remains a crucial EU objective. The annex to the European Council Conclusions on Ukraine addresses the concerns of the Dutch side in full conformity with the Association Agreement and the EU treaties.

"The European Council notes that the decision set out in the Annex is legally binding on the 28 member states of the European Union... It will take effect once the Kingdom of the Netherlands has ratified the agreement and the Union has concluded it.

"Should this not be the case, the decision will cease to exist," the document notes.
